Abby Mayer Academic Director
Abby was born and raised in Kirksville, Missouri. She attended Central Methodist College and graduated with a degree in History and Political Science with an emphasis in education. She married her college sweetheart, Morgan, and together they have 4 little girls; Scout, and Molly, and twins Kinley and Reagan. Abby's mother was a teacher and some of her earliest memories are going to school in the summer with her mother and helping to set up her classrooms. Throughout her life, she has always wanted to be a teacher and has most enjoyed working with with challenging students and those with special needs. Abby has been at CALO since September of 2008 and has loved all the opportunities that she has been blessed with.
Cindy Banner, MS Counseling, MSE Learning Disabilities, BA Special Education Preteen Teacher
I come to CALO with 31 years of educational experience. Prior to my recent retirement, I have worked as a teacher and counselor in Sedalia, Missouri. My husband, John, and I have relocated to the Lake area and are excited to enjoy our new adventures. We have two children, Nick who works as an architect and Jessica who attends college and is a fitness instructor. I am very excited to join the CALO community. I believe in the CALO model and am proud to be a part of healing and restoring joy to our students and their families.
Ryan Chester, BS Ed./ MS Ed. Teacher
Ryan currently teaches Health and Art at CALO Intermediate School. Originally from Michigan, Ryan grew up an Army "Brat," so he had the privilege of living in many different states and countries. He graduated High School in Waynesville, Missouri and received his BS in Social Studies and Secondary Education at the University of Central Missouri, and followed that up with a Master's degree in Education Administration at William Woods University. Ryan has taught Middle School 10 years and has over a decade of athletic coaching experience. Ryan is supported at home by his Amazing wife and four fantastic children. Some hobbies he enjoys are Crossfit, boating, MMA, and woodwork.
Holley Smothers, BS, M.Ed., NBCT Intermediate Art & Physical Education Teacher
Holley grew up in Columbia, MO. She earned her Bachelor's of Science degree in Education at William Jewell College in Liberty, MO. Her certification is K-12 Art and Physical Education. From Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO Holley earned her Master's degree in secondary education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction. She continued to take classes and has over 32 hours of graduate credit past her Master's degree. In 2004 Holley became a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood - Art. In 2014 she re-certified. Holley has taught K - 12 Art, middle school Health, and College Physical Education. The last 22 years of her teaching career she taught Art and Health at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Jefferson City, MO. Holley has been recognized for her work with students and has been awarded the following educational awards: 2004 Missouri Middle School Association's Central Region Teacher of the Year, 2005 Missouri Art Education Association's Middle Level/Junior High Art Educator of the Year, 2006 Missouri Art Education Association's Art Educator of the Year, and 2007 National Art Education Association's Western Region Middle Level / Junior High Art Educator of the Year. In May 2015 she retired and moved to the Lake of the Ozarks. While looking for a meaningful position outside of Public School Education she found Calo. Holley is excited about the opportunity to work creatively with Calo students as well as to help them work toward their fitness goals.
Bradley Johnson, BSE Intermediate School Teacher
Bradley Johnson was born and raised in Eldon Mo. He graduated from Eldon High School. After that he attended UCM for his undergraduate degree. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCM in 2014 with a BSE in Mathematics, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. From there he spent a year working for the Boonville School district. He then worked for the High Point school district from 2015-2017. He is now working for CALO as an educator.
Amy Lee, BA Intermediate School Teacher
Amy lives in Eldon, MO with her husband Craig, and they have two sons - Dustin and Connor. She earned her BA in History with a minor in English w/Emphasis in Literature. She finished her teacher program and became certified in July 2016. Children have always been an important part of Amy's life. She worked with Missouri Dept. of Education for 9 years in the Conduct & Investigations section. She was the person who dealt with making sure all new hires at 524 public school were fingerprinted before they began work. She also dealt with individuals who had a criminal/DFS history who were also wanting to be, or already were, certified as educators. Tracking, gathering, investigating, and putting together cases for these individuals was what she did every day. As the years passed, Amy realized she wanted to be on the other end. She wanted to be in the classroom with the children. So, at the age of 40 she earned her degree and began the process to become an educator! She says she enjoys every moment that she spends in school as a teacher. Amy says she wakes up happy to start her day, and leaves at the end of the day feeling a little more fulfilled.

I live in Lake Ozark with my husband Scott and our son Kaleb. My husband starting working at Calo a year before I did, so you can say this has been a bit of a family affair. I love spending time with my family and being outside.
